What Is Pagerank?

what is pagerank
Previously, PageRank is a system used by the famous search engine, ie Google, to assess or rank the web pages. The first time these machines were developed, they gave ratings on all websites are equal then displays its search results based solely on the content and meta tags that exist on the page. At that time, the revolution which was developed by the search engines is by making one important factor, namely the authority of a site.

To determine the value of the authority or how significant a site, Google has chosen some famous sites, like cnn.com, dmoz.org, and espn.com. These sites obviously have a high authority value, Google argues that if this site link to another site (say site A), then site A will receive a portion of authority from the site. If site B links to site C, then site C will also receive some authority, even though much smaller.

Based on this authority system, Google calculates how much authority owned by a site and then give it rank, the value is from 0 to 10, this is called PageRank. PageRank system today has become more  complicated than that time, but it all starts from here.

If you want to see what your site's PageRank or other site, please install the Google Toolbar or other seo tools, or you can visit sites that can display the pagerank, like prchecker.info. The question is, how you can get pagerank for your sites?, I will explain it on next post. You should know that the PageRank that is displayed is an estimate made by Google, and usually updated every 3 months or even more.

PageRank came out the first time, only Google was using it, but because some other search engines have seen a high degree of accuracy, then almost every search engine has added this system becomes part of their algorithm. While many of them were still trying to add the PageRank on their search algorithms, some insist on making their own algorithms to strengthen its search results, such as Yahoo.

Not just search engines, even webmasters, SEO specialists (Search Engine Optimization), and anyone will look to Google's PageRank when they wanted to assess quickly what is the importance or authority of a site.
